iPad parental control

Let’s face it kids love iPads just as much as the parents. But as parents we must do everything we can to protect our children from stumbling across a site, application, or explicit music that may not be suitable for them. We know the dangers associated with internet surfing, and the many predators that lurk around looking to victimize young children. iPad parental control gives us that freedom.

There are several ways that a parent can have some control over what a child watches or accesses on the iPad. Luckily, for us parents the iPad software already installed allows the parent to set restrictions and limitations as to what our children can get their hands into.

There are several applications that have been developed which filter websites and content on the iPad browser. They are intended to be the eyes of the parents when one is not around. Some are more than filter contents; they actually allow the parent to to have control by blocking certain sites.

Providing these restrictions on the iPad permits the parents to see what their children are up to, and in essence allowing parents to protect them even from afar. iPad parental control keeps our kids safe.

The Importance of Parental Controls on the iPad

The Internet is one of the most useful resources available for both parents and kids, but unfortunately it can also be the quite scary. If your family owns an iPad, you’ve probably found it to be a great educational and entertainment resource for your children. However, bear in mind it is a computer, and like all computers with Internet access you’ll want to treat it like any other computer in your home. Thankfully it’s easy to keep your kids safe online by activating iPad parental control.

To setup the iPad’s built-in parental controls, click the “Settings” button on the iPad home screen. Under the “General” menu, set the “Restrictions” setting to “On.” You’ll then be asked for a 4-digit passcode so you can enter the restrictions menu. Once you’ve set the passcode, you’ll view iPad parental control page. Anything you might be concerned about should be on this page. If you don’t want your child using the Safari browser at all, you can switch it off. If you have movies or TV shows on your iPad, you can set it so your child can only see them if they have a certain rating.

If you allow your child to download apps from the App Store, you can also set an age limit for apps on the iPad parental control page, but there is some controversy about the app store age restrictions. For example, apps with “Mild realistic violence” are rated for ages 9 and older, while some parents might find any violence inappropriate for children of that age. For this reason, app age ratings should be taken with a grain of salt. Before your child downloads an app, it’s best if you look at it yourself, read reviews and find out if it’s right for them.
